UX Strategy & Management - User Experience Design

UX Portfolio – User Experience Examples

Over the years, I have had the chance to work on some very diverse projects for even more diverse companies. Each one focuses on a critical aspect of UX I am proud of and I believe shows my passion and energy for this space. Some projects were one-off experiences, others were done as an employee or consultant.

Browse through a few of these projects to get a feel for what I do and what I love.

World Leader; Enterprise Encryption Key and Certificate management

This is where I currently serve as a User Experience Manager.

Venafi had a task that was seemingly unsurmountable; Take one of the most powerful, complex pieces of software imaginable, and create a delightful, elegant, and super usable experience around it. But the complexity and intricacy of their software was only half the challenge. To pull this off, we had to deal with one of the most arcane and convoluted industries in the world: PKI (Public Key Infrastructure). The management, deployment, and implementation of SSL Certificates, SSH Keys, and Symmetric keys.

Talk about a ride. When the actual subject matter you are UX'ing is one of the most advanced and sensitive technology in the world, you're not just ensuring a good experience for the user of the software, you're helping ensure a good experience for everyone in the entire world who relies on the Internet and networks to transmit their encrypted data*.

*Hint: It's every single one of you, hundreds of times a day

Fidelity was developing a large scale business app for their customers to use. Financial planners especially. The app had been developed in Flex at the time, but had zero UX or UI work done to it. It was straight from code, to Flex.

Groupon Social coupon and deal sharing network

This project was almost entirely written feedback and analysis. City Deals was already down a path for releasing an iOS app, with an android app coming right after. In a 11th hour attempt to salvage some of the experience, I was contacted to give it the best workover for basic UI usability, UX flow on some of the screens, and an overall assessment of the experience of this app.

Build a Canvas wanted to create a way for people to upload art, position and size it on a virtual canvas, and have it printed and shipped all automatically. The target users for this system was stay-at-home moms and hobbyist photographers. The experience had to be delight and seamless or the customer would instantly just click away to Shutterfly or CanvasPep.

PieShares was a project started with a programmer friend, which was one of the most rapid turnaroungs of a working prototype we have done. In the course of roughly 48 hours, we went from the concept, to UX prep material, to a prototype complete with rudimentary visual design.

Internet Direct Marketing, Email, and Landing Page Services

At producer media, I was the long-term UX and design consulting. I performed thousands of A/B tests and conversion optimization exercises. Enhancing the purchase experience and removing the friction from anywhere in the funnel, I was able to optimize the end-to-end experience from the initial click on an email, to the landing page, and through the checkout form and final purchase.

North American Leader in Small Kitchen Appliance Sales and Accessories

Working for Bosch was a special oportunity. With a multinational brand like that, the experience people have with the company was of top importance. I created the experience for the customer by tying in all their marketing and advertising, in-store kiosk designs, and took part in physical product design with new small kitchen appliance they were introducing.

Examples from the last decade.

My career history has always been rooted in web design and development. Creating the things people "see and touch." This started with graphic design at a young age, which evolved into web design. After doing web design for so many years, eventually the development part became secondary to the "figuring out how to solve the customer problem" part.

While I don't focus on web development any longer, user experience is just a higher level, comprehensive version of what I've always done. My career and passion always comes down to: how do we create a situation that gives a delightful experience and enables the desired behaviors.

Espresso, panini and cupcake cafe

In late 2007, I was brought in with a friend of mine to help give his new restaurant the ultimate use experience. It was going to be the first place of its kind in this part of the USA - an artisan cupcake bar, gourmet espresso and coffee, and a full range of entre centered on panini, frittata, pasta, and pizza.

International All-Digital Grand Format Printing

Design to print was moving to a fully automated system for customers to upload art, have it sized and positioned on the material they wanted it printed on. They also needed to be able to save their art and order, and have it shipped on demand.
